Practice Accreditation Procedures

Procedure to register your practice for training interns

  1. In order for accreditation of your practice to take on interns, you need to complete Form 206A download and forward it together with the requested supporting documents to basa-admin@biokinetics.org.za or fax: 086 684 9155.
  2. The application is then hand delivered to the HPCSA. These applications then serve at an Educational Board Meeting of the HPCSA. The HPCSA will then allocate an inspector at a Board meeting to come and do an inspection of the facility.
  3. You will receive written confirmation from the Board indicating the status of your application. The inspector then arranges to come and visit your premises and he has to write a report which once again has to serve at an Educational Board meeting.
  4. Only once this report has served and all has been approved will you receive written confirmation form the HPCSA informing you of your accreditation status.

Please take note of the following:

  • No retrospective accreditations will be done
  • Apply at least 1 year in advance for accreditation
  • The supervising Biokineticist needs to be registered with the HPCSA for at least 3 years

Each separate facility of a practice needs to be inspected independently i.e. If you have two practices and want to employ an intern at each or have the intern work at both addresses both facilities need to be accredited independently and therefore you  need to complete an application form for both practices.

If the practice relocates, you need to reapply for accreditation stating the practice has relocated or if the initial supervising Biokineticist leaves the practice and another Biokineticist takes over the same applies, as a specific accreditation is linked to a certain practice at a certain address with a specific supervisor – so if any of the detail should change so must the accreditation

Accreditation of the practice is valid for 5 years but the accreditation application process can take upto a year, so it is essential that you apply in the beginning of the 4 year to ensure that your practice is re accredited in time.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your accreditation status is active. After 5 years your name will be removed.

Applications for 2010 close on 31 March 2010. No late applications will be considered what so ever. If you should apply past the cut off date your application will stand over for 2010.

Please note: that you may not employ any interns unless you have been accredited by the HPCSA (had a physical inspection and interviews by an inspector sent by the HPCSA who has visited your premises). You would have also received written confirmation by the HPCSA stating approved accreditation to take on interns. If you do not have an official letter from the HPCSA confirming accreditation – no interns are allowed to be employed what so ever.
