Professional Development – First Initiatives
- In 1977 an Inter-University Committee consisting of heads of Human Movement Science (Physical Education) departments canvassed the Registrar of the former South African Medical and Dental Council regarding the inclusion of Biokinetics in their register of allied health professions.
Later Milestones
- In 1980 a meeting was held with the Professional Boards of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy regarding the inclusion of Biokinetics in their register of allied health professions of the former South African Medical and Dental Council.
- In 1982 a Notice is published indicating Biokinetics prospective inclusion in the former South African Medical and Dental Council’s register for Medical Scientists .
- In 1983 the profession of Biokinetics is officially proclaimed in the South African Government Gazette and recognized as an allied health discipline with registration status in the former South African Medical and Dental Council.
Recent Developments
- In 1998 Biokinetics is incorporated within the former South African Medical and Dental Council’s Professional Board for Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Biokinetics.
- In 1999 the former South African Medical and Dental Council underwent a transformation process and was renamed the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
